Connecting to an external Sharepoint site

I was working with a project manager today and he and I were trying to get a connection to an external SharePoint site. First I verified he could connect through the web browser which worked fine. I then proceeded to map the URL in Windows 7. Map Network Drive/connect to a website/etc through the wizard. I had him paste the url in the field and put his credentials in and it just kicked them back. At first I thought it was a credential issue, but I remembered when he first logged into the Sharepoint site he had to use his creds and they worked.

Next I was thinking firewall or ports so I ran a Netstat -an and didn't see port 443. Even though his https browser was open. I ran the same command on my machine and so did the exchange admin and we both had port 443 up and listening.

So anyway that's where I decided to get another group involved.

One thing that happen while attempting to log in was the box would just return quickly with his credentials left out. No error message, no sign of anything except a admin logon box.

Any idea what would cause this?
