Does 881W need 3 Antennas to Function (WLAN)?

ciscoman2012ciscoman2012 Member Posts: 313
Hey guys I believe I have the right configs done on this router but the wireless isn't functioning at all. I don't see it broadcasting my SSID name.

I have zero physical antennas attached to it as it was given to me and they misplaced them. Do I absolutely need them for the router to perform wireless functions, or do they only extend the signal farther than a few feet? There are three spots for antennas on the rear of the router.

Here is the sh run of the 881W and the AP side:

W881#sh run

Don't know if you'll need three antennas but you'll probably need at least one to get a signal out.

This question is probably better suited to the wireless section of the forums.

Thanks I didn't realize we had a section here for just wireless.

I'll try and post it over there too. If any mods see this feel free to move this thread.

To be honest I am not familiar with the 881w but the wireless antennas are what will actually be directing the RF signal. Without the antennas I could only imagine you getting a signal directly behind the antenna connector, if any.

Does anyone know any good replacement antennas?

If there isn't anything unique to the antenna or connector, I've gotten replacement antennas on EBay pretty cheap.

I just ordered this for around $9. Hope it will at-least broadcast the SSID with one and then I'll buy two more.
