Question about network+ updates...
Hello,
I've been out of the game for awhile now, I have my A+ but i'm just starting to study for Network +. I found a bunch of study material online but some of it seems a bit dated, how much has changed with the exam? it looks like you can either take n10-004 or -005? some of the stuff I found said 2005 on it so I don't want to waste my time with it if its been changed a lot.
Thanks, looks like a great site here.

Hopefuly that will detail the new material you're after, it seems that much of it takes into consideration the latest on Wifi <802.11> standards and a few other items that are not posted in the older objectives.
I have some study notes I made recently for one of my security certs, they are up-to-date but the Wifi component may be a little dated, anyway, use them as you wish:The Wings of Technology -

quinnyfly Member Posts: 243 ■■■□□□□□□□To be honest I am not really in a position to say as I did my N+ back in 2008, but a quick glance at the new objectives tells me right away that there are a few changes that need to be addressed which many older study guides etc, don't cover. In my personal experience the exam objectives don't seem to change too dramatically (thankfully) and maybe you could get away with using and older book and some online research and other bridging sources may <fill the gaps> and see you updated on the latest.
Definately d/l and print exam objectives and use/compare what you need to know and verify your knowledge based on these objectives.
This is not a difinative answer by any means , but perhaps a good starting point all the sameThe Wings of Technology -
Asif Dasl Member Posts: 2,116 ■■■■■■■■□□Yeah I think you need to weight up the likelyhood that you will get a question on something not covered. You should use a current book if you are taking the exam but if you are thinking about going that route, then you need to weight the risks that you might fail and have to pay out of your own pocket and buy a new book, or get your employer to pay again (they might not be pleased for a relatively easy exam) etc.
In saying that, like quinnfly, I took mine a few years ago and the main networking topics were most of the questions. It's unlikely they are going to hit you with 5 questions just on 1 of the side topics like GBICs.
It's risky if you are new to IT - you could do this for N+ but not something like CCENT+CCNA. -

In general, it's best to use study resources for the exam you plan on taking. If you're going to use the 004 materials, I'd suggest taking the N10-004 exam. If you want to take the N10-005 exam, I'd suggest getting some N10-005 resources. Materials from 2005 are probably for the N10-003 exam.
