Exam Question (Scenario)

A few years ago, I tried taking the 70-291 exam to complete my MCSA:2003, and did not pass. Since then I ended up taking the Cisco Academy CCNA course, and am presently enrolled at WGU. At the moment I am studying for the 70-642 exam. Is it possible to prep for the 70-642 and pass, then maybe turn around with some prep time and retake the 70-291? I would like to give this exam another try before it is no longer available.
