IP CEF and Routed Ports
Mierdin
I was wondering today (and unfortunately will not have access to my lab for a while and would like a quick answer) if there's any difference from an IP CEF perspective whether you're talking about routed ports (no switchport) or layer 2 switchports.
I know there shouldn't be a configuration difference, I'm mainly looking for some kind of documentation stating that there is or isn't a difference in the way CEF works or doesn't work when you're talking about the two port types. The reason I ask is that many designs include routing either via an SVI or a routed link and I'm trying to determine the impact to routing efficiency, if any exists.
From a conceptual perspective, it makes sense that it would operate correctly but rather than go forward on my gut instinct, I'd like to see some documentation exploring any differences

Depends on the platform most likely. Most of my work is on 7600 routers and i've never seen an appreciable difference. What type of CEF are you trying to benchmark? Central, distributed?
