Hardware RAID recommendations
I'm planning/exploring building a box with hardware RAID, but I've no experience with it. I was just curious if anyone has any suggestions on particular manufacturers' RAID cards -- especially ones which provide some reasonable way to get alerts on *NIX machines when a disk has failed.

What are you going to put on it? More reads or more writes? Budget? -

It's going to be a DB server with RAID 10 and fairly balanced reads and writes. I don't have a budget yet, but I'm not planning on going crazy with this. Let's say a soft limit of $800.
