You can also rearm the trial by running slrmgr -rearm from a command prompt. I have 2008 R2 standard edition as my native OS with hyperv running and use trials for the vm's and rearm them. For these exams it is certainly the way to go because for me just 2-3 vm's was not enough to lab everything. I had about 8-10 vm's that I used for these exams, also running hyperv allowed me to lab aspects of hyperv as it is covered in the objectives and if you have not used it in the real world (and even if you have) you might find some of those questions tough to answer.

The MCITP: EA is definitely attainable within a year, I started 70-640 in April of last year and passed 70-647 in December.
