Career decision advice - two job offers

Hi guys, I have a hard decision. I have two job offers. One is for help desk at a company that is a shipping company to 200 plus countries and they are growing. Second job is network admin assistant for a medical imaging company with about 5-7 offices. They are both the same pay but medical has better benefits and I think medical IT is what I want to get into. The shopping company has a plus too and I'm friends with the IT manager so it could be more stable. I could use some advice please.

if the benefits are a lot better then take the medical job, medical companies are pretty stable in general so I don't think it'll be a problem you'll probably want to leave after a year or two for more pay anyways.
Good luck in whatever you decide

Take the one that is more advanced/challenging, that will drive your career faster.

Well, it sounds like you want to go the medical route...

When you are fresh into IT, working for a smaller company has many advantages. Namely, they aren't going to have the money to go out and hire more folks for new requirements, very often. This means that you will be exposed to more technologies. And while your title might be "network admin assistant," you will be able to put your experiences on your resume which will look more like "network admin." Plus, if the network admin leaves, it is pretty easy for them to just not hire someone when the assistant is up to speed.

I would go with the medical imaging place.

Go with medical imaging, then you will be able to say I worked in a HIPAA and HI-TECH enviroment. Employers will see this as a gold since this counts as security experience.

Thanks guys, everyone keeps telling me to go with the medical imaging route. The benefits are way better and I think it will help my career out a lot by gaining experience there. I think the only thing that is making me nervous is thinking I will lose the job at the medical imaging company and ruin a bridge with the other company. I don't have any money to really fall back on at this point and I still realized I'm new to IT and onlyhave one year experience. Everyone keeps saying to be myself and work hard and I'll do fine. I must be doing well though because when I told my employeer I am leaving they offered to give me a raise to match the new company, but I am tired of working at the managed IT company.

I think you will enjoy the medical route. I currently work at Duke University Medical Center and I love every moment of my job.

Being nervous when changing jobs is all right. You will never know what lies ahead and chances always come at a prices. But that's just a normal process, so be open and motivated and things will work out for you. Best of luck! :)

I am going to do it. I will be starting on the 25th, so I will let you know how it goes. This is my chance to get out of Help Desk and I need to be all over that. So far every single person I have spoke with has told me to go this route. I believe it is meant.

i would go for the hospital.. personally. yea your riend might know you but trust me thats a weird situation if you screw up. Or need more money.

hospital = health care... and omg is that precious nowadays. and a network admin?? comeon .. you 'd be skipping the whole helpdesk thing... you start working with netflow and all that.. your golden.
