I think it counts as one of the elective exams, I did N+ and A+ for mine.

The MCDST certification counts for the elective portion of the MCSA certification. You can do 270, 271, and 272 all at the same time, as there is a lot of overlap between those, then you'll have one core exam (270) completed for your MCSA, as well as one elective exam (271 and 272 combined count as one elective). Then you just need to take 290 and 291 to complete the core requirements and get your MCSA.
