Linux+ or LPIC-1 online prep courses
greginnc
Has anyone looked into any of the online courses out there for LPIC-1/Linux+? I noticed some colleges have these but way too expensive, but some of your tech comm colleges and other companies offering the courses individually or as a series. I'm seeing some places less than $100 a course and was wondering if anyone took these and saw value in them. They do have study material, assessments, online labs, all mapped towards each area of the exam. Thanks.

I'm actually beginning the study process for the Linux+/LPIC-1 exam now. I honestly feel these classes can be good or bad, depending on the organization. With so many free resources though, I'm opting for Professor Messer (training videos),

(study textbook) and some good old fashion practice questions/exams. Most of these training programs are done online anyway and will require self study outside of class. So you might do yourself a diservice registering for it only to find out you could have done the same study methods for free.
The only exception would be if you were going to do a Linux+ bootcamp (several days of compressed studying with exam at the end) or if you are working for a company that will fund this for you. Those are just my two cents though!

To be honest as long as your looking at the recent versions of those exams then it doesnt really matter since the new Linux+ exams are infact the very same lpi exams. If you actually look at the Linux+ the new ones will say powered by lpi

for the money i would recommend cbt nuggets training videos, just because Shaun Powers from linux journal makes it fun to learn and i got some laughs
