Infrastructure Alerts Definitions

I recently started a new job where I am primarily doing infrastructure monitoring as my main job role. My company uses EMC Smarts. From what I am told the alerts are standard definitions from what Cisco pre-defines. Is there a good place to look up these types of alert codes to get a better definition of what they mean? I find myself at times having trouble deciphering what alarm means what.
