Aging time Mac Address Table

Well sorry for asking a basic concept in this thread but you people preparing for CCNP are experts so it might help.I wanted to ask that what is an optimum value of aging time of mac address table of a switch should be.I mean what are the disadvantages for a shorter duration value or is it advantageous to use a shorter value.Kindly explain .Thanks

    I'm not an expert, but I think it would depend on the environment. I work in a secure network, all active switchports are mac-address sticky with a single mac and shutdown for the violation. If your devices are static (not a lot of network devices coming and going) then aging time probably doesn't matter much. If you have conference / class rooms with users plugging different devices into the wall jacks (assuming they're not using wireless) then you'd probably want an aging time that would allow for devices to come and go.
