Serial Ports/DB Connectors?

Are serial ports and DB connectors the same thing? If not what are the differences? Thanks!

    DB Connectors come in 9, 15, 25 and 50 pin sizes. They are connectors and the DB 9 connector is commonly used for the 1st serial port (COM1) or serial mouse port. A DB 25 Connector is often used for printers or external modems.

    In short DB connectors connect to serial ports.

    paige1 has provided a decent general answer - good work!

    I'll just add that the 'D' of the DB is easy to recall because the connector is the shape of a D. Usually will be 2 rows of pins. And when you have an HDB the 'H' is for High and adds the third row (like the video connector ;) ).
