hello guys,

i understand that the cloud is oe of the hottest things to come out,

but i was wondering what the role it has today,

i am keen to get into the whole private cloud thing and build a private cloud for organisations and i have being working with system center 2012 suite and building a private cloud in my personal lab, so thats a start,

i believe a lot of software firms will benifit from the cloud, what do you guys think? Who will have benifit from this? And what should i do to get a cloud based role? Cheers

Good Question, I believe Virtualization will play a important role in the Cloud Environment. Apart from that healthy knowledge of current Cloud based solutions will be a good starting point. These are the points I have come across so far but then again I am still on the same path as you

I work in a medical field and we're pretty big on virtualization. And no, we do not use the word 'cloud' in the company. lol

Companies really don't realize that if they have a server hosting an application they in essence have a cloud. Terminology aside, I do believe private "clouds" will be taking off as companies begin the process of decommissioning old hardware. When I was with an MSP, we were converting people to virtualized servers like it was going out of style. Nothing better then getting a powerhouse server (for cheaper then the four or five they currently have) and then putting it all on the box. From a monitoring stand point it makes things a lot easier as well. Finally, being able to have basically all your internal apps web based allows for much fewer support issues. I know here we have a number of web apps and very rare that we get support calls for them, when we do it is usually for an issue that the coders have to look at. Interesting times to say the least...

Agree with the Grinch, the cost benefits are hard to come by in the current "Cloudy" Economic scenario (pun intended icon_lol.gif ) apart from that you can say that you are going green by going virtual. What is not clear at this time is how things will evolve in the future as we have various technology/approach going head to head in the Cloud. Time will tell which will the way forward, but Virtualization will play a role in it thats certain.

Server virtualization is the foundation for cloud computing. Its possible to cloud w/out virtualization, but its not cost effective.
