Loopback interface on Layer 2 switch
Slayasam
Hello all,
Question: Is it possible to configure a loopback interface on a layer 2 switch and assign an IP to the loopback interface to act as the management interface for the switch. Our company is looking to standardize the management interface on all networking devices. I like the idea of using a loopback interface as a management interface for SNMP/Telneting/network managemnet purposes. In order to stay consistent I would like to implement a loopback interface on all network devices including layer two switches. Is this possible. The alternative would be to designate a managemenet VLAN and apply the SVI on all switches within the network.
Let me know,
Thanks

Im gonna go out on a limb here... You're a CCNA/CCNP with access to a production network and you really need to ask this question??

Loopbacks are on L3 switches and routers.

+1 a ccnp shouldnt need to ask that sort of question

Use the svi to manage the device. I'm not sure if this is covered in the CCNP exams it's been a while. I would say anyone with lot of eng exeperience should know this.
