IRQ's COM ports and I/O addresses

Is it necessary to study these throroughly and be able to answer questions like these?

You have a serial scanner connected to your computer configured to use com3. It is turned on. Your modem is using com1, and you can't dial out. What is the most likely problem?

What is the i/o address for com2?

I ask this because I felt pretty confident for the 701 I'll be taking this friday and then my father sends me a link to a website full of practice exam questions that i had never even encountered...

I don't think so. Maybe those are for the older exam. Try CompTIA's sample exam.

No, those questions are for older versions of the exam not the current one. You won't need to memorize IRQs, COM ports or processor sockets in the current version.
