in CCNA & CCENT
First of all hello everybody, this is my first post here
I've just receive an email from cisco that said: Your CCNA Cisco Certification will expire on 10/20/2012.
I have one question. i think that i could take any ccna concentrations exam (voice/wireless/security) and then my CCNA will be "activate" again for three years more, am i wrong?
Another question, I'm not very sure if i may take the exam after 20th of October or if i must take it before this day so that I won't lose the CCNA 640-802 certification.
Thanks!!

- Pass any current CCNA Concentration exam (wireless, or security, or voice, or SP Ops), or
Lab:
Combination of GNS3 and Cisco equipment if required. -
spicy ahi Member Posts: 413 ■■□□□□□□□□Yes, you have to pass the exam before the expiration date in order to keep your CCNA current. Otherwise, you will have to take the CCNA examination (either one test or ICND1/ICND2 combination) over again. This also means you won't be able to take any of the specialization exams until you pass the CCNA again. If you're worried about time constraints, I would say study the ICND2 and take that. It renews your CCNA: https://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/le2/le0/le9/learning_certification_type_home.html Assuming you've been working with Cisco gear regularly, ICND2 should be a walk in the park. Good luck!Spicy  Mentor the future! Be a CyberPatriot!

Ivanjam Member Posts: 978 ■■■■□□□□□□spicy ahi - the link you provided to the Cisco page has the following point:
Pass any current Cisco Specialist exam... or any 650 online exams
I looked up the 650 online exams and found the following pages:
Cisco Testing with Pearson VUE

Call me stupid but I just couldn't figure out whether you had to be a Cisco Partner or not to take the exam.Fall 2014: Start MA in Mathematics [X]

Thanks for your advice, really appreciate! i'm trying not to get stressed..think i'm gonna go for the voip examination. Although I have ICND2 concepts pretty much clear, I think it would be better for me to take the voip exam in order to have a 'different' diploma. What do you think about this option? -
TehToG Member Posts: 194The benefit of doing ICND2 is that it's easy if you've passed it before. The downside of the voip one is that if you fail, you also lose your CCNA.

Wendell, that's exactly the reason why I went with CCNA Security. Why go through all the trouble of studying and not get anything new out of it?
TehToG has a good point though... you don't have much time. I believe Cisco's retake policy is something like 6 months (180 days). Maybe since you are crunched for time you don't have enough time to do something new? BTW: I would schedule your exam soon because sometimes the exam providers are full. -
Nytrocide Member Posts: 225So if you take a "flavor" of CCNA and fail, you lose the certification entirely? Crazy.Goals for 2014: CCNA: Voice / CCNA: Security

TehToG Member Posts: 194You get your CCNA it lasts 3 years. If you don't either pass it again or pass a further exam you lose it (CompTIA is the same). If he fails the exam he CAN retake it in about a week but there may be no places.
-
superjerelman Member Posts: 30 ■■■□□□□□□□I say go for the ICND2, if you fail voice or any other exam you have to wait a week per fail exam before a retake. so if you fail a exam close to the 20th, you'll lose your CCNA and have to start over again anyway.BS:IT from WGU.

Nytrocide Member Posts: 225So just to clarify...you pass ICND2 and get your CCNA certification. If you go for CCNA:Voice and fail the CCNA:Voice test, you lose your CCNA certification and have to take the CCNA test again (to recertify) before taking the CCNA:Voice again?
I'm sure I misunderstood that.Goals for 2014: CCNA: Voice / CCNA: Security -
YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□Nytrocide - Failing a specialization of CCNA does not revoke the CCNA Route/Switch. The other poster was simply saying because the OP doesn't have much time, studying for and failing a specialization exam wouldn't leave the OP with enough time to re-study for the Route/Switch exam, most likely causing it to expire. At that point the OP will have to re-take and pass the CCNA before attempting another specialization exam.

f0rgiv3n Member Posts: 598 ■■■■□□□□□□Ok my bad sorry to scare you nytro hahaha. Maybe i misunderstood the Cisco retake policy... Or maybe 180 is only for ccnp... I'll look that up. Btw good luck on your renewal exam!

f0rgiv3n Member Posts: 598 ■■■■□□□□□□OK so i figured it out... I read it wrong. 180 days you have to wait to take the same exam if you PASS it.... Who's going to do that anyways? LOL! Go Wendell you can do it!
