Windows 2008 version of WIndows 2003 290 exam?
triplea
Hi,
I've only recently starting looking at server 2008 and thought it might be wise to update the old resume.
Not interested in going for the full mcse or mcsa equivilent yet but wanted the same as the old 290 server exam. Is there one near to this or which one do you suggest it would be better to start with please?
Cheers

I would recommend either the 70-640 or the 70-642, depending on your experience. The 640 is more Active Directory and the 642 is more Microsoft networking. If all you want is the basic cert, I hear the 642 is easier. I have already passed the 640 and I'm now studying for the 642, and the 642 does seem easier. However, it looks like the 640 exam is closer to the 790.

70-640 is most like 70-290. Less general server and more AD. Somewhere between 290 and 293.

Contrary to the advice I usually give, I would actually recommend you finish MCSA 2003. You only need on test -- 20-291 -- and you have it. From there, you would take 70-648, which is essentially the 2008 R2 version of 290 and 291. There are some scope differences, but it's largely the same.
