Are you issued a Blackberry or other cell phone for your job?

I am just looking to see who all out there works for a company that issues you a phone for "on call" status or other reasons.

I expense my cell. Does that count?
  • higherhohigherho Member Posts: 882
I have. Though if I used mine they would reimburse me for a certain amount of cash.

So many people lock out their CAC's when using their CAC sled and blamed the small buttons on the blackberry. 5 years we will be using iphones soon enough lol.

Yah I was given a blackberry for when I travel to remote offices. I am not "on call" though.

On call 24/7, I am provided an iPhone 4S

iPhone here, only because I didn't have a cell phone to begin with and I am required to do my on-call rotation. Once I leave this position I imagine the next place I work will do the same. Otherwise I prefer to not stay connected when i'm out of the office unless it's required. For example when i'm not on-call, I turn the phone off and just leave it in my desk at the office.

Primary support for a company that uses Blackberry but has started using iphones. Focal point is for email. The company i belong to allows flexibility on carrier and choice of any phone the user desires.

I am on call 24/7. My company pays me an extra $80 a month on my paychecks to cover my cell phone expenses. This way we can keep our own phone and they do not have to provide one.

Thanks for your replies. Just wondered if people were getting issued one, or reimbursed, or having to pay for there own. Got a new job and have not had a chance to ask what the deal is.

My last 2 positions have let me expense my cell instead of providing me a cell.

It is nice not having to carry around 2 cell phones at all times.

My boss provides me a BlackBerry so he can text me while I'm out of the office, on training, business travel, or taking a ****. It's enterprise activated and 'locked', i.e. you can't install any apps. If I want to install an app, I have to jailbreak my BlackBerry. By doing so, it disables the enterprise activation. I have to call the helpdesk to reactivate it.

On call 24/7 and currently using company issued Blackberry. We'll be changing over to Iphones next year though.

It's crazy that any companies are still issuing BlackBerry. BB10 actually might bring RIM back, but I just can't believe organizations still issue the current models.

My last job initially issued iPhones, then switched to a mixed BYOD cell phone stipend (partial reimbursement -- enough to pay for most of a plan with data), although still let me keep my issued 3GS.

My current employer pays for the full phone package with iPhone, though what iPhone you get can vary based on your position. The iPhone is not mandatory for many people, and they are generally free to get whatever phone they want as long as they want in contract or pay for it if not in contract.

Before all that, it was BlackBerry. So my last three jobs over the last five years have all had company cell phone plans.

My own phone, no reimbursement what so ever, and none planned at all either. My office phone automatically rolls to my cell if I dont answer in 3 rings, so I can always be found.

I HATE Blackberry - I got sausage finger and can't stand even the keyboard. First thing I did was forwarding the phone number to my private mobile (iPhone) so I don't have to carry it. Then THANKFULLY we also use "Good for Enterprise" for smartphones - I got two licenses currently - for iPad and iPhone - so I can still read my work emails (if I really want to).

My work has the option to use your own phone or use a Dell phone with windows that they provide. I chose my own phone which is an iphone.

Current company is BYOD with no reimbursement. Last company issued phones to people above a certain level and I wound up with a BlackBerry that I grew to hate. I had to pay for the phone itself beyond the stipend we were allowed and the company picked up the tab on the contract, which was limited - almost no texting, limited voice, but unlimited data. Later they added unlimited voice and texting, but we were locked into a carrier that had spotty coverage in several of the areas where I traveled. I carried two phones and wound up using my personal phone more often than the business phone.

Current company expects us to have our own phones, and since we are an IT consulting firm we all have smartphones. Activesync for email, and we beta tested the Lync mobile client so we have been using that for a while. I like only carrying one phone and having the choice of device and carrier. We use Lync as our phone system so I have a company-provided 'phone' as long as my laptop has battery and a wireless signal.

My current job doesn't, but most of my others have given me a phone for on call.

I gues I'm pretty fortunate to hae my company fully pay for my phone and my bill. We had Blackberries when I first started here 3 years ago, but we moved to iPhones about a year and a half ago. They will pay for a cheap / refurbished phone, but if I want a new fancier phone I can still get a decent discount. I'm on call one week a month and sometimes have to handle tickets outside of the normal work day. I forward my personal phone to my work iPhone since I hardly ever use my personal phone, and hate carrying two phones around.

My work issues iPhones that can be used for personal use as well. While we don't really have an "on call" schedule, someone is expected to be available 24/7. I still keep a serparate personal phone since it gets used for things that don't need to be associated with the company.

My first IT gig I was handed a Blackberry Curve, loved the BB then. I was not on call with it, it was just an easier way for us to email/PIN/BBM each other for faster communication. Ever since I left the position I was never given a company cell phone....kind of a perk I miss
