Softphhones needing a separate VLAN from data?

I am working on answering a question for a customer and I have hit a road block.
I have deployed and managed several networks using hard sets for VoIP and have set up VLANs for VoIP and data.
Now, I am being asked about soft-phones. Do they need or can VLANs be used?

Nope, it is not possible.

The same VLAN can be used but best practice is to separate the voice out for QoS and security purposes.
