Whats the big deal with subnetting?

Has anyone asked themselves whats the big deal with subnetting? Seriously, if it just takes 5 minutes to whip out a nat translation in a cisco router to a class A, why bother?
Or is there something bigger over my head that im not seeing

You need to master subnetting because it's required to know: You'll get the easy questions that's simple, you'll also be tested on Identifying issues that will require subnetting to check implementation.
