Windows Installer won't work! Ahh!

reloadedreloaded Member Posts: 235
Hello everyone. Well, the backstory is that I had uninstalled Microsoft Office XP Pro (an older Beta) the other day and now my Windows Installer won't work. I get an error that reads "Windows Installer failed to initialize" or something to that effect. No error code though, unfortunately. I did a Windows Update and got the new Windows Installer 3.1, but the problem still remains. Basically, I can only install programs that use their own installer, instead of the default Windows one like most do. I also attempted a System Restore, but it was not able to restore to a previous configuration as "No changes were made." Also a bunch of crap on that one too. Anyway, I was figuring this was a registry error, but I'm not sure. Nothing I do will work! icon_sad.gif Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

i've been having the same issue..

    try

    in the command prompt

    msiexec /unreg

    reboot

    then

    msiexec /reg

i that helps sometimes but i haven't had much luck in getting it to fix mine other than manually starting the installer
