Hi. Personally, I just want to clarify if the CCNA cert is considered a license. Thanks icon_wink.gif

I wouldn't consider it a license at all. I look at the CCNA as a certification which reflects a holder's potential for being able to perform a certain type of work.

But isn't that the purpose of licenses? To prove that you can do the thing that you studied for? icon_wink.gif

A license gives you permission. Permission to drive for example.

A certification is totally different. It proves you know x, y, z.
    Lab:
Combination of GNS3 and Cisco equipment if required.

Is there a scenario in which you would need a licence to configure Cisco devices?

Most likely no. There may be a license required for a certain job type, but for the application alone, no.

To be blunt, a certification really only means that you had the knowledge at some point to pass a multiple-choice exam. It technically could also mean that someone with your name was able to find their way into a test center and manage a passing score. A cert is just a piece of paper that indicates to an employer that a candidate might know enough to do a certain job. It's not a real qualifier since like a lot of things technology, it becomes a use-it-or-lose-it issue where if you don't practice the skills learned, it fades after a while.
