USB drive problem on Windows XP
hey got a laptop with windows XP when I log on as the local administrator and plug in a USB drive some times it finds the drive other times it will not see the drive, when I log on to the network as an administrator the USB drive is recognised and goes through and asks if you want to load drivers and then works.
So my question is how can I get it to detect the USB when logged on as the local administrator? what is wrong with the laptop?

WafflesAndRootbeer Member Posts: 555There's a known flaw with USB peripherals that shows up when a device has been connected and disconnected too many times as every time creates a registry entry under the username in the registry. That might be it.

I didn't know that. I see things like that happen all the time on our XP machines. Thanks for the info. -
WafflesAndRootbeer Member Posts: 555You can correct it by going to town on the registry via regedit to cut out the entries but I don't recommend it as a solution as it is VERY time-intensive and leads to problems if not done correctly. AFAIK, it's a problem in every single version of Windows there is.

Sounds like Ive got two options then
Rebuild the laptop
or create a new account and use the new account as the main administrator. I will give this a try.
