VCP-510 Elidgeability

I am looking at taking the VCP-510 exam and am looking on VMware's website and it is saying to take a course prior to the exam? Is this a requirement to be able to sign up for the exam or is it a recommendation? Thanks in advance!

Edit: Can't spell eligibility icon_study.gif

That sucks. Their prices for classes are ridiculous.. they expect people to pay that much just to be able to take their cert?

You can take the exam without attending the class, but you won't be awarded the VCP 5 certification. You have to have both for the certification.
    CERTS: VCDX #110 / VCAP-DCA #500 (v5 & 4) / VCAP-DCD #10(v5 & 4) / VCP 5 & 4 / EMCISA / MCSE 2003 / MCTS: Vista / CCNA / CCENT / Security+ / Network+ / Project+ / CIW Database Design Specialist, Professional, Associate

Do some searching on the forums. There are a few online options and depending on your location your community college or other universities may have a lower cost option.

My employer paid for the class as they wanted me to become comfortable in our transition into vmware this quarter. What is your motivation for the certification?

I currently work daily with HBSS (Host Based Security System).. not sure if you're familiar with it as it is utilized heavily by DoD. Anyways, it is hosted on VMware ESX Server and managed through using vSphere. I would like to get a job (or at least have the option) working with HBSS when I get out of the Navy. I just thought since you use vSphere to manage HBSS, that a VMware cert would give me an edge. Also, a large amount of job postings that I have been looking at want VMware experience, so a cert would be a great way to validate that experience.

I think most people who take the expensive classes go because their employer paid for it. Personally I took the class at a community college participating in the VMware Academy Program. The total cost for the class and the exam came out to about US $250 (5 units * $26, $50 lab guide, misc. fees, and $52 for the exam after the 70% discount voucher you get after completing the class).
