Are you talking about a windows ISO image? You will have to burn to an optical medium or extract to a USB drive. In a virtual environment like VMware workstation, it can be mounted as a CD/DVD.

if the boot errors are defective hardware no.
if the boot errors are corrupt IOS yes

are we speaking of a switch, or router?

sometimes boot errors can come from the bootstrap.

could you give more information, you did not say much.

Hypothetically speaking, you could use a linux iso image to repair boot errors on a linux operating system so long as the error is operating system related and not hardware related. You can also use a Windows ISO to repair the MBR or partition boot sector. You would have to burn these iso images to a flash drive or a cd in order to repair anything but if you're having boot errors, chances are you're not going to be able to boot to the hard drive and you won't have much of a choice. We'll need a lot more information to be able to give you the answer that you're looking for.

As others have said, you would have to burn the iso to a cd or uncompress to a thumb drive first. Or, if it was a server that supports mounting virtual media from a remote machine, such as HP Advanced iLo, then yes you could mount the iso and boot to it to repair boot errors.
