Hi Everyone,
What OSI layer is the lowest layer that written text can be viewed? How can this be viewed? Wireshark? Pardon, i am very novice and studying CCENT and this question popped into my head.

Thanks!

the text exists at all layers.

all the layers are are wrappers around the payload/data in simple terms.

imagen writting a letter, placing it in an envelope, placing the envelope in a sack and the sack on to a truck.

Looking at the truck from the outside can you still claim the letter can be viewed?

its still there in teh same formate it was when you wrote it. unlike the letter data in a network can be striped apart with tools such as wire shark, so with wire shark you can take the trunk, and stripe away the outside layers to get at the "letter"

The text you talk aout is not part of the OSI, its it the letter. The OSI model describes the delivery method.

if it is plain asci text, and there is no encryption to the packet, if you put a sniffer on the network and capture the bits traveling down the wire using a volt meter. by knowing the standards used in the OSI and ethernet networks, you can recreate the text. This is all some thing like wireshark is doing.
