Well I've just started on the Firewall Cisco Press guide in earnest, and have come across the first error -
The ASA 5550 - the fixed SSM card is apparently Bus 0 and the 4 ports that are normally on the 5510/20/40 are Bus 1?

Keep an eye on the errata, although it doesn't seem to mention the issue you encountered:
