Hey all,
Have a somewhat non-IT question for you guys today. I know a lot of us go to WGU which is self paced material that can be completed as quickly as you think you can handle. I also know a lot of us study daily for personal / professional improvement be it certification based, knowledge based, or simply researching an interesting topic. Here is my question:
HOW do you guys study and retain the information? I can sit here and read a book all day. I will keep some of the information, but not all of it. I breezed my way through High School, so I never learned how to take proper notes or how to formulate a realistic study plan for a daily / weekly schedule. I would love some advice or pointers, even if they are simply your preferences or a website or two with ideas.
I have a lot of ambitions and currently my inability to study effectively is holding me back. I hope this community, with its focus on continual improvement, will be able to help me reach my goals.
Thanks in advance.

I like to write down my notes. Even if I never go back and read them, I'll remember them a lot easier because I wrote them. I often try to use my own words, but sometimes I just copy the material verbatim.
Writing takes a LOT longer than just reading, but it's worth it. I'm not the type that likes to re-read the same text multiple times. So i'd rather extract as much info as possible in 1 read-thru.
Also, if you're doing a technical subject, practice it.
Also try to use multiple sources. There's ine.com, professormessor.com, cbt nuggets, a slurry of online material (a lot of it free) and books by multiple authors.Goals for 2018:
Certs: RHCSA, LFCS: Ubuntu, CNCF CKA, CNCF CKAD | AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect Pro, AWS Certified Security Specialist, GCP Professional Cloud Architect
Learn: Terraform, Kubernetes, Prometheus & Golang | Improve: Docker, Python Programming
To-do | In Progress | Completed -
