Please Help (dynamic disks_ NTFS)

Could someone please help me out with a couple of questions i need answering.
1: when you convert from fat/fat32 to NTFS are the NTFS permissions applied automaticaly.
2: Can you extend a dynamic disk if XP resides on that physical disk,
If you cant then how can you create a spanned volume.
Any one with exam cram 2 can read the paragraph im having trouble with on page 246 (when you are extending a volume)

1. Default permissions allowing everyone access. You should assign permission manually after converting the system to NTFS.
2. You cannot extend the boot or system volume. Check the following TechNotes for more info:
