Just scheduled 70-680

Hey guys,

I have just scheduled my 70-680 exam for March 29. I also signed up for a second shot voucher just in case. I am pretty nervous already, since this is my first certification exam since my A+ back in 1996. I have been going over all the labs on technet, and using all of the resources I have found here, so I think I will do well. I just wanted to go ahead and schedule it and give myself a firm deadline to get on the ball and get to studying.

Once I get this certification, I will be signing up to enter WGU and going for my Bachelors in IT, with no specialization. I just want to get my degree and I can get the certifications on my own once I am out of school.

Thanks to everyone on this site for all of the encouragement I have gotten and for being such a wonderful resource for all of us folks striving to make something of ourselves.

Thanks,
Gene

If you're going to WGU almost all of your IT classes have the official cert exam as the final. It was through WGU that I got the A+, Net+,Sec+, Proj+, MS certs Vista, and MCITP:EA, along with the 2 rather useless CIW Associates and Javascript Specialist. Since you're going for plain IT you wont have to do the Server track but you will do a Sun Java Cert and a Database Cert. They have made so many changes on what they require and will change more in the near future. I do know that your A+ is old enough that you'll have to take it again for the class.

Actually, I found out that if i sign up for CompTIA continuing education and send them my proof of cert for my 70-680 after I pass, they will automatically update my A+ to be the newest version. I don't know if that will make any difference as to whether I still have to take the WGU course or not, but that will give me my 2 certs to at least get started at WGU.

I don't know how they're dealing with that now..if getting the newer cert that way will qualify the A+ as completing the class but for others, as well as you 70-680 cert, that cert will mark that class as requirements met (meaning you don't have to take the class.) Whether the A+ actually works that way for you is up to WGU. Like I said before they change the rules so fast that the rules you read today may not be the rules you start under.

Word of advise, 70-680 isn't a joke. Please make sure you have thoroughly studied all the exam objectives. I barely passed it on my first try, and I studied a lot. It's nothing like the comptia exams. Wish you luck.

And a word of advise: When you're taking the pre-exam survey don't say you have a lot of experience. I think that really does affect the difficulty of the questions.

    BEST OF LUCK! icon_surprised.gif

I agree with this entirely, they are two completely different monsters. Also, I am unsure how I feel about the Pre-exam survey, I have taken the 70-680 2 times and the first time I put low experience of W7 and the second I put moderate. The second one was significantly harder than the first, but it may just be luck of the draw. I will try that out next time I take the test.

    Good luck, biggene!

The survey in no way affects the exam. If a person could manipulate the exam by simply choosing the "correct" pre-survey questions, Microsoft would change that. I know that the course mentors at WGU, focus on this this, but its just a survey.

After receiving some awesome news about my job hunt on Monday, I have now rescheduled my exam for Friday March 9th. I've watched all the Professor Messer videos, and gone through the MSPress training guide. Now I am cramming all week with notes from Professor Messer and the Poulton book. I did get signed up through the 2nd shot voucher program, so if I bomb it at least I know what to study and I have a second chance for free.
