Career Advice

I need some career advice... Currently I am working Helpdesk (Level 1-3 support) and I am looking for advancement. I am thinking of branching off into Network Security. I am currently studying for my ICND1/2 and CCNA Security (CCNP > CCNP Security) right after. I am currently working in a federal position (contractor sadly) and I am not sure if what I am doing is enough to get me into the Network Security field. I do not plan on staying federal since that's all I have been for the last 7-8 years (Army Vet) and I know the DOD doesn't care about Cisco certs at all.

Any information/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sirbloody
