In the Tech Exam question, "What protocol is used to create virtual private networks over several types of networks including TCP/IP?"

L2TP and PPP is listed as choices but why is L2TP the correct answer and not PPP?

PPTP is a VPN protocol but PPP is not. PPP is a layer 2 WAN protocol.

I checked again PPTP and L2TP are listed.

Both PPTP and L2TP are used for tunneling protocols yet L2TP is the correct choice. Why is that?

    59. What protocol is used to create virtual private networks over several types of networks including TCP/IP?

    a. TCP
    b. PPP
    c. PPTP
    d. L2TP

This is a tricky question and you are right..... both PPTP and L2TP can be used for VPN, but the question asks which is used to create a VPN over "Several Types of Networks" and that is the part that makes L2TP the correct choice.

PPTP uses IP only but supports other protocols and L2TP is not limited to IP.

    Hope that helps ya.
