Just passed CCNA today!!!!

It's been a long time coming, but I finally cleared the hurdle. I used the following study materials:

1) CBT Nuggets (ICND1 and ICND2)
2) Cisco Press (Read chapters I was lacking in) answered questions
3) Train Signal

I just went over the questions over and over again while looked over videos. It also helps that I recently sat for the ICND2 back in February and failed it. I then quickly jump back into my studies and went into battle-mode that just raised my intensity. I'm now prepping for the CCNA Security, and then decide wether to go after Check Point or tackle the CCNP Security route. Not really seeing a lot desire within job ads, or Dice for the CCNP Security. Everyone seems to want CISSP's, CISA's, CCIE's...etc

Please offer any advice you can for the following job role's:

Network Security Engineer (mixed in with some F5 Load Balancing)
Security Analyst (same as above but with some VCP)
B.S Information Technology Telecommunications
A.S Network Server Administration
M.S Information Security Management (expected 2014-2015)

    Congrats on the pass!!

Per my senior security engineers from my SOC: "Cisco ASAs are CRAP". They tend to prefer Juniper. Not to discount CCNP Security by any means, just repeating the words of some of those who have been in the industry for quite sometime.

Somnipotent, thanks for the heads up in regards to Cisco ASA's. I've looked through some of the forums here and realized that Juniper is more preferred in terms of its OS. I've been thinking about checkpoint (Firewall) and JNCIA & Jncias to round it out.

Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for.

    My take:

Security Engineering: Configuring/managing/troubleshooting security devices and solutions: AV, SIEM, Firewalls, proxies, IDS/IPS, etc.

Security Analyst: Responding to the alerts provided by the security devices above. This is what I currently do and I deal with the client/server model moreso than the network layer. Heavy emphasis on TCP/IP, how devices communicate, etc. I got my CCNA and CCNA: Security, neither of which really prepared me for this position.

I do think CheckPoint would be a good move for you if you want to work on the engineering side of things.
