OpenStack
All,
So my company had some sort of falling out with VMware on price and support issues. I really don't know the details. Anyhow, we have a mandate to get rid of all Vmware products by the end of next year. It's plenty of time I guess.
We're moving to "OpenStack". I know nothing about OpenStack I am JUST starting my googling right now. Just hoping people can point me to the right resources to become an expert? Cert programs? Training? Reading? CBTs? Web Based labs etc.
thanks!

Other general thoughts are trying to attend their meetings, where people working with the project hold various presentations, there are some available at youtube as well. And the last perhaps most obvious, try installing it in your home lab and try it.
I will attened one of these meetings the next week, and can perhaps publish some notes if you feel like you want them. -

Look for a local Openstack meetup. You're in the Bay area which means there should be >4 around (lol). I'd also say deploying it yourself in a test environment would be very beneficial.
You might consider looking into oVirt as well. In the open source world, oVirt = vSphere, while Openstack = vCloud Director. oVirt covers the hypervisors (with kvm) and management console, then Openstack can deploy clusters of oVirt hypervisors.
I've deployed Openstack a couple of times in test environments. It's really meant for large scale deployments, while oVirt is meant for small 4+ server clusters. A couple years back I took a class on deploying clouds from my local CC as well. We covered Openstack fairly in depth, but the Openstack community moves fast and some components I learned about have been massively overhauled. With that said, your best bet is to pick a release version and stick with it.
OS wise, what are you deploying on (hypervisors) and what are you planning on deploying in your cloud?Work in progress: picking up Postgres, elastisearch, redis, Cloudera, & AWS.
Next up: eventually the RHCE and to start blogging again.
