Defragging files

I know how to defrag the hard disk but it takes so long. Is it possible to defrag files individually, and have the computer stop after defragging the file?

Why not just have it run at night while your asleep or get an SSD Drive?

If it it taking a long time, you either have done it and/or have a large and/or slower hard drive. You probably only need to run it monthly depending on use.

Use Auslogics Disk Defragger and you can have it power off the computer when it is done.

On a related note, never attempt to defrag an SSD.

Contig from the Microsoft sysinternals suite can defrag a single file.
    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
    Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...
