Media omitted from systems = saves waste??

Does anyone who is purchasing a NEW system (for example DELL, as I just read this on their site while configuring a system for 'fun').
No Media - The no media options let customers choose whether or not they want to receive the media that has been preloaded for CD-RW and DVD drives. Selecting the no media option reduces disposal costs for customers who do not want them while reducing environmental waste.

Do you really find that NOT having your media is a good thing?

I can see for a client with multiple identical configurations (maybe). A busines with 10-15 systems with the same software could easily get by with 2 sets of media.

Why make that an option in the configuation? Can you not work that out with your sales rep? icon_rolleyes.gif

I have NOT searched yet, but does anyone know if you do lose your HDD and you have chosen NO media....does Dell offer you a 'free' download, or are you left to purchase 3rd Party software??

'i' before 'e' except after 'c'.... weird?

I hate preloads anyways. We sell HP boxes to our clients mostly and I love to wipe them and do a clean XP install and only put on what the client needs to operate. Most of the Dell/HP/Acer/etc preloads have far too many update and reporting features running for my tastes.

Software pre-loaded on a hard disk is an S&M (sales and marketing) tool that is only marginally successful in selling systems. Unfortunately, it's such a common practice that a PC vendors would be negatively regarded by consumers and retailers alike if they didn't offer useless app bundles preloaded on to their machines.

Offering a PC with either a "bundles" or OEM configuration is very nice, but for larger vendors it means stocking both configurations in their inventory, and that adds cost.
