I found this online doing searches on Global Knowledge site and wondered if anyone has gone through with them. They are free and are a prerequisite of a GK course. eLearning Courses - Dell SonicWALL, Inc. I know it is vendor specific, but would this teach basic network and security skills as well?

It is very vendor specific, and mostly goes through configuring the firewall using the GUI. It is an open book and open note test, with most answers easily located by a quick Google search. However if you have any experience with configuring a Sonicwall, there is really no need to study as the topics covered are extremely basic, even for a vendor specific exam. I would say that the Net+ and Sec+ tests you've already taken, go into more depth than what you'll find on this test, from a general knowledge standpoint. The only people that will get anything from this material or test, would be someone who has never configured a Sonicwall, and needs to learn the basics for their job function.WGU BS:IT Completed June 30th 2012.

SephStorm Member Posts: 1,731 ■■■■■■■□□□would this help you understand how to create a VPN or other such things? I mean N+/Sec+ teach you what a VPN is, or a Firewall is, but not how to create one/configure one...

Not really much detail given in the objective that are tested on. -
Hypntick Member Posts: 1,451 ■■■■■■□□□□@sephstorm the course will teach you that, however, since it's vendor specific it's Sonicwall only. There is absolutely no theory of any kind in the cert or class, it's all practical configuration.WGU BS:IT Completed June 30th 2012.

SephStorm Member Posts: 1,731 ■■■■■■■□□□I get it. After my CCNA i'm looking at the security track for cisco (and my GIAC path...), as well as the CCSA So maybe I can give a review of which one best teaches what needs to be known.
I would guess that in firewall administration, once you understand TCP/IP, network traffic flows, its just syntax and GUI for each vendor. Something to that effect for VPN.
