RIPv1 doesn't supprot subnetting?

Is it correct that RIPv1 does not do subnetting? The smallest network utilizing RIPv1 would require a class C IP domain, right?
I get this idea because it says the network command would assume the subnet mask by checking the netowork IP entered. And the smallest network IP that we can enter is a class C IP address.

RIPv1 does not communicate subnet mask in the routing updates.An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made. -

As Networker said, the actual limitation is RIPv1 doesn't communicate subnet masks in routing updates.
If you lab it up, the nuances of that statement may become clear.
