Hey All....
Reasonably new to the boards (I'm a 4 post baby), but not a total rookie.
Curiousity has finally got to me, and I have a renewed interest in my A+...since the company I now work for will reimburse me for my tests.
My biggest question is as follows: There are numerous different sectors of IT. Server admin, repair, network admin, helpdesk, etc. I want to know you're opinions on your current positions? How do you like being a Network admin? Why do you like to simply work in a small PC shop doing repair? How interesting of a job is the Microsoft Helpdesk? Things like that...just a general overview of your happyness/dissatisfaction with what you do with 6-24 hours a day of your life? Please be specific!

I implore you, my dear friend, what would become of our world if those "failsafes" you rely upon were to mysteriously....fail...?

Ricka182 Member Posts: 3,359I work in field service. Basically, I drive to customer sites, and troubleshoot/repair computers, printers, a little networking. The work is fairly simple, but I hate having to deal with a pissy customer, which is usually all of them for one reason or another. It's almost always my fault the system is down too(like I broke the printer remotely or something...)....as that is their first comment....I've also done some temp work at a helpdesk, and that sucked, maybe worse than FS. Some people just should not put in front of a computer......i remain, he who remains to be....

Poisonworm Member Posts: 8 ■□□□□□□□□□I work support for an ISP (american)...however I'm whats called "floor support", I tell the agents what to do . I like the job and have since determined the same. Some people should not be given the mouse and keyboard. And all customers are pissy in one way or another. And it IS our fault that it's not working. Cuz we are the only ones that they know to blame. :dI implore you, my dear friend, what would become of our world if those "failsafes" you rely upon were to mysteriously....fail...?

You work for Convergys?
I worked on a project with them as Tier 1, then Floor Support, then Tier 2, then TASC, then NOC Support. Was with them for 7 years. Hated the work with a passion, hated my managers more!
Now I'm a "do-all" guy with EDS, mostly deskside support, with a little server support, Exchange admin, and network support here and there as needed. Awesome job. Tons of experience and hands-on. Great supervisor. Great hours. Lots of money! Field services is much more my style than help desk stuff. Of all the roles I've assumed in the past, network support is my favorite, so I'm going to complete MCSA and move on to CCNA/CCNP and try to get into that sort of role.Mikey B.
