Root switch - bids in hexadecimal

Hi,
I'm looking at a ICND 2 question that shows 4 switches. Their Bids/MAC addresses are shown as:
0013.8039.9500
0013.80d7.d580
0013.8030.5e80
0113.80c7.9700

Looking at the answer I can tell that 0013.8030.5e80 is the root switch. But I don't understand why this is lower than 0013.80d7.d580 or 0113.80c7.9700.

Can you help?

    hexadecimal works this way.
    decimal = hexadecimal
    1 = 1
    2 = 2
    3 = 3
    4 = 4
    5 = 5
    6 = 6
    7 = 7
    8 = 8
    9 = 9
    10 = A
    11 = B
    12 = C
    13 = D
    14 = E
    15 = F

    comparing 0013.8030.5e80 from 0013.80d7.d580, 3 is lower than d(13)
    comparing 0013.8030.5e80 from 0113.80c7.9700, 0 is lower than 1

    thus making 0013.8030.5e80 the root switch
