If we didn't have a monitor then there is a very good possibility that a bad drive would go unnoticed. We rarely look at the individual disks in the DP's and the physical disks are covered by a bezel so you wouldn't necessarily see a bad drive LED.
And on top of this, any comptent storage admin would have his storage arrays actively monitored. I certainly had my SAN configured and would receive alerts on everything from temperature, to open bays, degraded array status, failures etc.Modularity and Design Simplicity:

it_consultant Member Posts: 1,903I am not excusing the person who missed three bad drives. I am just saying I understand how they could be missed if you are not looking for them.
