Cisco Wireless APs

I've been thinking about picking up a Cisco WAP on eBay to learn about how they work and are configured. Would something like the Aironet 1000 be fine? Do certain ones only work with a Wireless Controller or can they all be configured to work independently?

Veritas_libertas... you can get the Cisco 1140's which are some decent controllers to work on and learn WLAN on and you can pick up one 1100 series which would light up a block. Also, the IOS after upgrade on these devices have all what you need to prepare for the CCNA wireless etc. plus they have all the security features needed built-in. -

I like the 1242's, they support A, B and G.
It's also nice to get the Wireless controller, make sure they sell you the 48VDC power adapter with that piece, otherwise they are pricey to buy separate.A+
