MCSE 2003 Upgrade Path

Hey Guys,

This is going to be a bit of a stupid question...

I have my MCSE 2003 which I got *quite a while ago* been a bit slack on exams due to other commitments but now looking to get back on them.

I want to get MCSE 2012 but do not want the gap between 2003 and 2012 so looking to get MCITP EA before I start 2012.

Due to exam expiring I want to pass 70-647 and 70-643 before this time.

Is there anything wrong with passing 70-647 before you are actually MCITP as I know its an upgrade to EA, does that matter at all?

70-647 is a summary of the previous exams, you would have to have a fairly high level of 2008 R2 knowledge to even attempt it. That said you can pass the exams in any order to achieve MCITP:EA, it's just going to make it harder on yourself doing them backwards.

Go for MCITP:SA instead and you won't have a deadline and you can upgrade from MCSA:2008 to MCSA:2012 by taking 70-417 - and then on to MCSE 2012 if you want.

I know people like to be perfect sometimes and get every version of MCSE but does it really matter that much in the end? I do it because I've kept up but that doesn't mean I will when I do other exams that interest me. Don't worry about a gap IMO.

Thanks Asif, I've looked over the Exam and think that I could pass this and 70-643 with not too much of a struggle before this expire date. Worked with 2008 R2 since it came on the scene so fairly knowledgeable, just didnt want to study for a path that was a dead end if the 647 was denied due to pre-requisites not being met!

I think I may shoot for the EA if I fail the 647 and think its really not long enough then get the MCITP:SA like you mentioned and upgrade from there...
