Hyper-V Pass-Through Disks

Hey Guys I'm studying for my Server 2012 70-410 and I am currently learning about Pass-Through Disks, my questions is, would the disks for pass-though be located on a SAN only or other locations for example the Hyper-V host?

EDIT: I have found this answer here
Hyper-V allows virtual machines to access storage mapped directly to the Hyper-V server without requiring the volume be configured. The storage can either be a physical disk internal to the Hyper-V server or it can be a Storage Area Network (SAN) Logical Unit (LUN) mapped to the Hyper-V server.

Thanks

You can use passthrough disks on any disk available to the machine. Whether they are internal to the machine or a presented LUN.

The disk has to be offline in the host OS though.
