in CCNA & CCENT
Hi,
This topic is not exactly related to CCNA but I must clarify my doubts.
In CCNA, we learn that vlan are different broadcast domains but that they are in L2.
However, in the data center that i work, the switches (data center switches not those small ethernet switches) are separated via VLAN in their topology.
I dont understand why this is done.

networker050184 Mod Posts: 11,962 ModThere are many reasons to use VLANs. Why they are being used in your network depends on the design. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.

Another key thing to remember is that unless you are working with L3 switches, everything your switch does is L2. It really helps to segregate STP, VTP, VLANs and routing in your head by the different layers of the OSI model as they are all interrelated and separated at the same time.
