Has anyone ever worked with one of these? Is it possible to replace it with an AC power supply unit?

did you get it free or are you considering to buy? If you have it already check the mobo part #. See if it will xreff to the AC version. AC is converted to DC as soon as it gets out of the power supply. The question will be if the AC psu will simply swap and the connectors are the same. You lucky dog I wish for one! what is it a 55xx?
