In what context?

basically i just want to know if that ip is a subnetted address or a supernet address and is there any calculation on what to do to find that? i was told you have to look at 1 octet to determine what class the ip is first, then look at the prefix after and from there i'm not sure??

When u subnet a network u can forget about classes. U can have this class A ip 11.0.0.0 with a class C subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, this is subnetting.

the slash 21 means you have 21-1's in the subnet mask (read left to right), which makes it 255.255.248.0. So, it's a class C address with a Class B subnet mask. This is an example of a custom subnet mask. I'm still not clear on how supernetting is defined.
