All I wanted to do was a small distraction for a day or two. Like most posters to this forum, I have always been interested to know a little more about Exchange: it's architecture, major features and capabilities. Little did I expect to be drawn in to the degree that I have. Significant focus has replaced curiosity.


Initially, I trolled Exchange 2010 articles in Microsoft TechNet articles, as well as performed a few Technet Virtual Labs on the subject. Today I have 3 books to digest and internalize, close to 200 pages in all:

• 70-662 Rapid Review
• 70-663 Exam Ref
• Exchange 2010 Inside-Out

This Labor Day weekend I am setting up a two domain forrest environment on my test lab machine. I didn't find many lab scenarios on the Internet to try out, so my hands-on learning may be a bit hit-and-miss. If anyone knows of a site or document with lab scenarios, I'd appreciate your input.

why not exchange 2013?

The reason: a simple matter of there being more study material available. Don't misunderstand me. A lot can be found in the TechNet Library, and there is the Microsoft development team blog and ... whatever. My focus has been on Exch2010 because there is even more info out there. I do admit, though, that I do read up on Exch2013 particulars. My lab environment is strictly Exch2010, though.

You are going to see much higher demand for Exchange 2010 over the next year or two anyway. Exchange migrations are behind Windows migrations, which are still generally 2003 - 2008 R2, these days. A lot of orgs have yet to move off 2003, which cannot migrate to 2013. You will definitely get good use of Exchange 2010 skills. Keep at it. It's certainly a good product with some depth.

I switched to learning 2010, mainly cause my current company is still on 2007 and that's what they'll probably be upgrading to next
