The books on the bottom of the following page are the most popular for the 70-270 exam. I prefer the MSpress Training Kits for MS exams, but the Sybex books are usually good too.

I bought the 70-290->70-294 MCSE kit and I find those books lacked information for beginners.
Is the MS 70-290 book good for somebody who is starting out with MCSE? -

As I mentioned in your other topic, most people start with the client (70-270), and not with the server exam (70-290). You could start with the 70-290, but I would not recommend that one for beginners to start studying nor for your first MS exam. There's some overlap between the 270 and 290 exam, which results in 290 becoming more doable after doing 270 first.
